ANOTHER BUSY WEEKEND AT ELIE SAILING CLUB

On Saturday 29th May the club ran one of its annual races - the "Yow Trimmle Race" the race gets its by being run at the time of the sheep shearing when the yews get cold and tremble after shearing. This weekend saw 5 club boats join in the race which included the first race for the new club yacht - Leisure 17  "Sidiki". The race was around marks in Elie Bay which took just over an hour to complete. The winning yacht on this occasion was Eva B, 2nd was Blue Swan, 3rd was Kismet, 4th was Sundance and 5th was Sidiki. It was a close run race with the 2/3/4 boats all with 1.5 minutes of each other. After the race the competitors met in the clubhouse for a drink and chat about the race which was enjoyed by all. Our photograph shows Kismet and Sundance rounding a mark during the race.

Yow Trimmle - Race Elie

At the same time in Anstruther the "Skiff Race" run by the Scottish Fisheries Museum was taking place. Elie and Earlsferry Sailing Club was pleased to help the organisers by having a crewed rib from the club attend the event and handheld radios to help control the racing. The rib was crewed by Mike Burgess and his partner Elaine who both enjoyed the event and were made most welcome by the organisers.

Club Open Day

Sun. 30th May, Elie & Earlsferry Sailing Club held their Annual Club Open Day, despite the weather, with heavy showers, the club attracted over 120 visitors to the event. Visitors came from the local area and from as far as Glasgow, Hartlepool, Edinburgh, Australia & USA.

On the day the club committee members were on hand to welcome guests and show them around the clubhouse and explain what the club is all about.

Club Yacht Inspection

We had taster sailing sessions on the Water,  where over 30 enjoyed  sailing and Powerboating in the bay.  People were delighted to find out that they did not need to have boat to join the club, the club has its own boats that's members can use - including the  New Club Yacht and sailing club members are always willing to take you out in their own boats.

Everybody enjoyed the day despite the wet weather, although it did clear up later on day for try boating - we had 3 no shows, but this was filled by passing trade, from our local publicity

Later in the afternoon Bums Off Seats, provided a led walk around to Elie Light House and Lady's Tower. This event was part of Celebration of Fife 2010 - Sail2walk Project, with support of RYA Scotland.

Next Big Event is The 3rd  Open Annual Powerboat Cruise - 13th June  where powerboats from all over Scotland, come to Elie for the day.
